Some of the most terrifying stories could be hidden under a seemingly glittering list of accomplishments. Winner of both the USA and World championships in hurdle events, Lolo Jones has reached her current position after plenty of effort and immense patience. Jones was the only child of a five-child family as well as grew up living in poverty. She lived with her mother in the basement of a church, and was constantly on the go. This nomadic life led Jones to switch to a new school every year, until she began the high school. When she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School Jones resided apart from her mother in order to pursue her interest in the track and field events. She lived with different families during high school to be capable of focusing on her studies. Jones was awarded the Gatorade track and field athlete of the Award in high school.
