Winner of both the USA and World championships in hurdle events, Lolo Jones has reached her current position after plenty of effort and immense patience. Jones was the only child of a five-child family as well as grew up living in poverty. She lived with her mother in the basement of a church, and was constantly on the go. This nomadic life led Jones to switch to a new school every year, until she began the high school. When she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School Jones resided apart from her mother in order to pursue her interest in the track and field events. As a young cellist, Jones was also part of the school's orchestra. Since her college days, Jones proved to be one of the best hurdlers. In 2002, she became the winner of the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Track & Field Championship. In addition, she was a part of the team that finished second in the 100-meter relay. Jones was the NCAA champion in indoor hurdles both in 2013 and 2003. Jones started her track career in 2005 after she finished her university studies. The following year, she took home in the Torino Memorial event, and in 2206, she won the Ostrava track event, as and the Heusden track event.

Brandt, who was raised in Cape Town South Africa with her siblings and parents, relocated to Auckland New Zealand when she was in her teens.
